Why I Started RNDM2SDY

I love being a dad. But somewhere between raising three young kids, building a career, paying bills, and keeping the wheels turning, I realized something. My life had become Groundhog Day.

Wake up. Work. Kids. Dinner. Bedtime. Repeat. Don't get me wrong. I wouldn't trade my family for anything. But somewhere along the way, I stopped doing the things that made me feel like me. The hobbies. The adventures. The random stuff I'd do just because it sounded fun. Everything got pushed to "someday." Someday when work slows down. Someday when the kids are older. Someday when I have more time.

But someday has a funny way of never showing up.

I was already 5 years in to saying Someday. With a 5 year-old, a 3 year-old and a new addition, I started wondering: Is this really what the next 20 years are supposed to look like?

THE IDEA: ONE RANDOM TUESDAY

I didn't need to quit my job, disappear into the mountains, or completely reinvent my life. I just needed to make a little room for myself again. So I came up with a simple idea.

What if I carved out a little time every Tuesday to do something different?

Ride a bike. Explore a new trail. Dust off an old hobby. Learn something new. Try something I'd never done before. Nothing elaborate. Nothing expensive. Nothing that required an entire weekend or a perfectly coordinated schedule.

Just one small adventure to break the routine. Something to look forward to each week. Something that reminded me there was more to life than getting through another day. And then I thought about what those little adventures could add up to over a year.

52 Tuesdays. 52 adventures.

That's how RNDM2SDY — Random Tuesday — was born.

THESE CAN BE THE LONELY YEARS

Here's something nobody really warns you about. Fatherhood can get pretty damn lonely. You can have a house full of people you love and still feel disconnected from the rest of the world.

Your friendships become harder to maintain. Your hobbies collect dust. Everyone's juggling work, kids, schedules, and responsibilities. Getting a few buddies together for an afternoon can feel like organizing a military operation. And even when you manage to find a little free time, your friends probably don't have theirs at the same time.

That's where RNDM2SDY comes in.

We don't need to live in the same town, coordinate calendars, or even know each other personally to share an experience. Every Tuesday, we take on one shared side quest. Maybe it's getting back on a bike. Learning a new skill. Trying a new sport. Exploring somewhere you've never been.

One dad might tackle it Tuesday morning in New York. Another might get to it Thursday afternoon in Colorado. Another might squeeze it in on Sunday in California. Different places. Different schedules. Same mission.

We can share our experiences, celebrate the wins, laugh at the failures, and remind each other that we're not the only guys trying to figure this whole thing out.

DO IT SOLO. NEVER ALONE.

WHAT YOU'LL FIND HERE

RNDM2SDY is a free weekly newsletter and community for dads who are overworked, underplayed, and ready to get a little more out of life.

Every Tuesday, we deliver a mix of adventure, useful knowledge, and inspiration.

THE R2 SIDE QUEST — SOMETHING ACTIONABLE

One shared, real-world challenge every week. Sometimes it'll push you outside your comfort zone. Sometimes it'll reconnect you with something you used to love. Sometimes it'll just be an excuse to get outside and have a little fun.

Complete it whenever and wherever you can. The point isn't to be the best at something. The point is to get out there and do something.

THE TOOLBOX — SOMETHING PRACTICAL

Useful skills every dad should have in his back pocket. From basic car maintenance and home repairs to everyday know-how that makes you a more capable, self-reliant guy.

Because there's something satisfying about knowing how to handle your own shit.

THE FIELD GUIDE — SOMETHING TACTICAL

Gear, destinations, fitness, hobbies, time management, and mindset. Ideas and strategies to help you make the most of your limited free time and get more adventure into your everyday life.

Less scrolling through other people's adventures. More having your own.

LEGENDARY DADS — SOMETHING INSPIRING

Stories of extraordinary fathers who've accomplished incredible things, overcome adversity, or simply lived lives worth learning from.

Not because we all need to become world-record holders or climb Mount Everest. But because sometimes seeing what's possible reminds us what we're capable of.

THEY'RE WATCHING. SHOW THEM HOW.

Here's the bigger reason behind all of this. Our kids are watching.

They're learning what adulthood looks like by watching us live ours. They're learning whether life is something you endure or something you embrace. Whether you stop trying new things when you get older. Whether adventure is something you watch on a screen or something you go out and experience. And whether becoming a responsible adult means giving up everything you love.

I don't want my kids growing up thinking life is just an endless cycle of work, bills, responsibilities, and waiting for the weekend. I want them to see a dad who's curious. A dad who's willing to try new things, fail, laugh at himself, learn, and try again. A dad who works hard and takes care of his family but still knows how to have some fun.

Not every adventure needs to include our kids. Sometimes we need to take a little time for ourselves so we can come back feeling more fulfilled, energized, and engaged. Because being a great father shouldn't mean giving up the things that make you feel alive.

And the example we set may be one of the greatest gifts we give our children. Don't just tell them to chase their dreams, explore the world, and live life to the fullest. Show them how.
